This is Chris’s first scratch build in On30.  Chris, a Roanoke, VA member, has been modeling in HO for many years.

The flatcars are freelanced following a set of Bodie Railway flat car plans in the March/April, 1991 issue of  the Narrowgauge and Shortline Gazette.  The drawings by Alan Doughtery can be found on pages 74 - 76.

The caboose is built on a basic flat car chassis and  is modeled after a drawing by Dan Kieft.  The drawing was found on pages 73 and 74 of the March /April, 2005 issue of the Narrowgauge and Shortline Gazette.

The flat car and caboose frames are made of bass wood.  The trucks are either HO scale trucks or Bachmann On30.  The variations in truck size and length make a more interesting train.  Chris plans to make five or six cars.

In the background is the beginning of a major coal loading facility.  It will be served by an On18 line.  More on that later.
